Bhai Dan Singh Ji was an extra-ordinary personality of village Manuke. He was born into a Jat Sikh family at village Manuke in the district Ludhiana, Punjab in 1898.

He took education from Pandit Shri Sundar Das of the same village. He spread his knowledge during his lifetime and taught more than 100 students.

Bhai Dan Singh Ji lost his parents in early days and overburdened by the responsibilities of life.

He faced so many troubles at each turn of life, but the hope of freedom was continuously ignited in his heart. He set out in life for the service of the humanity and the nation.

Bhai Dan Singh Ji was just 22 years old, when he participated in the ‘Guru Ka bagh’ and ‘Jaito Movement’ in the year 1920. This movement was a great success on the way to free India. During these movements he faced the lathi charge of British Police, which resulted as fractures in both the knees and several other fractures in his body. He was imprisoned in dark room (kaal kothri) for a month, but he didn’t bow downed against British rule.

He was guided by many great personalities but the influence of Baba Nand Singh Ji and Baba Iser Singh Ji was the most. Bhai Dan Singh ji is undoubtedly the Sikh Hero of this century who served mankind and worked totally selflessly for the nation, all his life.

He never expected or demanded anything for his immense contribution towards the freedom and the unity of the country, also instructed his children, not to take worth/benefit of his work done.

Bhai Dan Singh Ji was a brave man, a great fighter, a revolutionist, a great thinker, a great teacher and above all a great philanthropist.
